What is Reclaimed Flooring?
Reclaimed wood has been taken from long-standing idle buildings and refinished for new purposes. Mountain Lumber flooring comes from timbers and decking rescued from old buildings, barns, piers and other structures. Many of our products come from century-old textile mills and factories built during the Industrial Revolution using 300 to 400 year-old Longleaf Heart Pine. Other types of wood come from fascinating historical structures in other countries, including oak from the original Guinness® beer vats in Dublin, Ireland, or railroad cars in Russia; and elm from ancient Chinese structures built during the Ming Dynasty. The common thread among these diverse sites is that all of the structures were going to be torn down and their materials discarded. By reclaiming the wood, Mountain Lumber not only creates beautiful flooring, but it also preserves historically significant artifacts that would have otherwise been destroyed.
